Often in life people ask us why we do the things that we do. Why did we start carpet binding? The better question is probably how. Believe it or not, carpet binding is in the family. Paul’s dad, Jeremy, was an auto and marine upholsterer for many years. He acquired an industrial sewing machine and overlocker along the way. Jeremy would do mats as a word of mouth service. As he attempted to retire the question of what to do with the mats arose. Toni Eliot, the brilliant worker that Jeremy took on when he bought Tidy Trim in the 80’s, decided that working on her own she wouldn’t have the time to do carpets. My Paul leapt up and said don’t sell those machines to anyone but me! I rolled my eyes as I often do wondering where on earth we would put them.
